The guy manning the counter was nice, but not hoovering - I think he realised I knew what I was looking for.
Jeff know's his stuff. I am very thankful for all his time and kindness. He helped to fit me in shoes and took see the after closing to help me repair my old sleeping bag. Great store.
Knowledgeable staff, very helpful. Could talk about hiking all day with these guys. Will definitely be back when I am on the trail near Damascus, VA again.

What a good amount of backpacking supplies in a rather small stor e. Right on the Appalachian Trail. I hope to get back again some day. Highly recommend.
The Appalachian Trail passes right through the small town of Damascus Virginia & right in front of Mt Rogers Outfitters. This is an actual outfitters with the gear you need to begin backpacking, upgrade or resupply. Friendly & helpful staff that actually use the gear they sell. No posers here! The other shops in town (that have sprung up in the last few years) mostly rent bicycles, for use on the over crowded Virginia Creeper Trail (with some useful hiking gear by default). If you need hiking gear, resupply or useful hiking information, from people that have actually been there, Mt Rogers Outfitters is the place. Friendly conversation & even a rocking chair or two. They have a hostel right across the street & run shuttles.
They have a bit of everything you need while you are out in the wild! Drove up, forgetting my socks. No problem, they had plenty to choose from.
